On the survey I put down that I'm looking forward to the cocktail hour even though I don't drink but your Mom and I have been watching Step Up Revolution to enhance our dance moves. So we may need a drink and it might be good if everyone else has already had one. Your Mom is having trouble with her break-dancing. By the way Congratulations on finding your better half Shawn! Good luck Kara and welcome to the family!

Hey Kara & Shawn,

Congratulations.....!!

Great job on the website, it was fun to browse through it. But I noticed there were no pictures of me, what's with that...?

I'm putting my vote on the yellow and green cake, and I'd go with Ruth as the DJ, she's "Hot", and I might get lucky...!

Shawn, I enjoyed meeting you when you were up here in Rochester. It will be nice to welcome you as part of our family.

Kara, you should go on that Hot Air Balloon ride. They are a lot of fun, and not scary at all. Craig and Katya bought me a ride years ago for Christmas, it was a great experience.

Best wishes,

Love ya,

Todd

Alan Gifford

Best Man

Alan and I share so much in common it's scary. He is a great person that I have had the pleasure of having as a friend, co-worker, and team mate. He is a talented developer who loves motorcycles, bowling, animals, movies, and music. This guy pretty much knows every line from the most obscure of movies and has a knack for quoting them at the perfect time for optimal hilarity. As an added bonus, he is single ladies so keep an eye out for him and his moves at the reception!

Beckie Salamone

Maid of Honor

Beckie and I met during our Freshman year of High School. We instantly had a connection and Beckie still continues to be the person I laugh the hardest with and feel comfortable knowing that I can always be myself around her. Our friendship has always been unconditional, and now that the miles are between us, it always feels like we just saw eachother yesterday when we visit each other. When I am around Beckie I always feel like home, Beckie lives in West Henrietta, New York with her husband Jason and her daughter Emma. Beckie works at Level 3 Communications as an IT Project Manager.

When you see Beckie make sure you tell her "Ogeu" or remind her that she smells like pine needles and has a face like sunshine.

Stacy (Scooter) Warzecha

Maid of Honor

Stacy and I met in Home Economics class in 1992. Throughout middle school, high school, college, and life, we have been like sisters. I have always had a bond and shared a love for Stacy's family as if they were my own. Everyone will get to meet Stacy, her sister and brother in law, and her parents at the wedding; although most of you already know each other. Stacy also has 12 year old son, Alexander (or Zander as we call him). I'm so glad that I will have Stacy by my side and share this day with me. She has been my rock for so many years. I couldnt' imagine it any other way..... ♥

Stacy lives in Greece, NY with her son Alexander and works at JP Morgan Chase as a relationship/Business Banker.

*Update! This morning 11/8 (12:01am to be exact) Stacy's boyfriend Chris proposed! I am so happy for the both of them, Stacy and Alexander are deserving of a great man in their lives and Chris is loved and welcomed by all in her family. I hope they have a long and happy marriage full of love and laughter! Oh, and a little girl. :-)

About Us

Proposal - His version

Shawn's version:

At this point in our relationship, Kara and I had been traveling back and forth to see each other monthly. St. Patrick’s Day was approaching and it was my turn to head to Phoenix. Kara and I had discussed the difficulty of a long distance relationship, and had agreed that if things were to keep moving forward, our future would be in Phoenix where her job was, and where I would have ample opportunities. On my last trip down I had already met with a jeweler and setup a ring set that I liked and wanted to give Kara.

I planned for this trip to be special and to return to Houston with a fiancé instead of a girlfriend. I wanted to ensure that she knew exactly how I felt about her. With the ring order in place I tried to ensure that nothing fell through the cracks, so I contacted Kara’s mother to setup a lunch meeting a day before I was originally scheduled to arrive. I changed my plan tickets to a day earlier to ensure that I could make the lunch. I scheduled a hot air balloon ride which was going to be the big moment for later that weekend, so all I had to do was keep from blowing the surprise. I met with Linda and received her approval to ask for Kara’s hand in marriage. With that accomplished I felt a little better about asking Kara.

Kara found out about the meeting with her mom, and about me arriving into town a day earlier and got suspicious. I tried my best to keep everything a secret, but I started to get the feeling that Kara knew. That evening for dinner Kara wanted to go to the Olive Garden, and kept dropping hints the entire dinner about how typically romantic of a place it was and how it would be a good place for a public proposal. It was not, it was cheesy so as much as I wanted to ask I resisted.

The next morning came a long and I could barely contain myself, knowing that the balloon ride would be coming up the next day, so I was able to be patient. Kara did not make that easy; however as she really sensed something big was coming. She spent the day taking me to places that were scenic, when no proposal came we ended the evening at Benihana another place I was told was nice for a public proposal. I held out though as I just knew the hot air balloon ride would be perfect. Kara was obviously suspicious and was starting to get uneasy thinking I was chickening out.

The big day arrived and I woke Kara up excited about the balloon ride, when Kara told me there was NO way she would ever get on a hot air balloon. I panicked, thinking I had blown my chances. We took a trip to tortilla flats where I decided to make the most of things and find a way to romantically propose. We had plans for dinner at her mom’s house that evening and I did not want to show up there after asking for permission without having asked Kara. While at tortilla flats I saw a lot of beautiful scenery and some isolated locations that I felt would be ideal and perfect for the occasion. With ring in my pocket, throughout the day I tried to coax Kara off down paths, up mountains, down by streams, anywhere I could get her undivided attention to ask her to be my wife. Every time I tried she refused as the terrain was too unstable, steep, or slick, and to be fair she was in sandals and she is Kara.

After a snack of some horrible chili and beer that was probably the most disgusting thing we had ever put in our mouths we decided it was getting too late and needed to head toward her mother’s for dinner. As we started the drive back out the winding roads of the mountains I was really panicking, searching for any location I felt was worthy of the event. Then I saw it, a nice corner in the road with a cliff down to the lake and the sunset bouncing off of the water and the mountains. It was simply perfect. I asked Kara to pull off the side of the road so I could get a picture. She did. She got out and decided to take some herself, so while she concentrated I pulled out the ring and took a knee behind her.

When she turned around, I’d love to say I spoke the most elegant wonderfully rehearsed verse of all time to ask for her hand. In reality though I’m sure she could barely make out what I was saying as I could not even hear myself think over my pounding heart. I do know she said yes though as he had a huge smile and hugged me for what felt like forever. Those hugs are something I never want to be without again.

About Us

Proposal - Her version

Kara's version:

Shawn came to visit me in Phoenix for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. We really had nothing planned; we usually decided what we would do as the day went on. I’ll be honest, I knew something special would happen that weekend-I just didn’t know when. We went out to Benihana for dinner and when we left he had told me that he planned a hot air balloon ride for the following day. Honestly, there was no way he was getting me in a hot air balloon. Keep in mind; this was shortly after the hot air balloon tragedy in Egypt. I was adamant that I was not getting in a hot air balloon. Poor Shawn, I blew his big plans and now he was left to come up with something creative in a few days’ notice, or worse, wait…

We had plans to have dinner at my Mother’s house the following evening. Since Shawn lived in Texas his whole life, he hasn’t had the opportunity to see mountains very often. I decided that we would take a trip up to Tortilla Flat the next day before dinner with Mom. For those of you that have never been there, or seen pictures, it is one of the most uniquely beautiful places that I have seen in Arizona. (We've included some pictures on our site) You will drive about 30 minutes through winding mountain roads, looking out to see you are driving on the edge of a cliff. The terrain is fairly rugged with rocks, cactus, and plenty of sharp turns and one way bridges. Just when you think that you can’t fight the car sickness back, you turn a corner to find a beautiful lake nestled in the mountains. There is a small western town with a tavern, a gift shop (of course), and an ice cream parlor. We had ice cream, and walked around a bit. We stopped in the Tavern and tried the local beer (Yuk, FYI), and I realized we were going to be late for dinner. I’m not sure if Shawn was procrastinating at this point, but he sure didn’t seem to be in a hurry to leave the area…

As we started our drive back we reached a small area to pull off and take pictures. The view was gorgeous, and the sun was just beginning to set. We pulled off to get a few good shots of the lake. Shawn kept telling me to try and get a good photo of the West side of the lake. I took a few shots of the lake and turned around and there was Shawn, on one knee. There was no sugar coating it, he just popped the question. That was all it took. A quick kiss later and our moment was interrupted by a shirtless man in a pickup truck wedging into the same area with his brood of kids. Regardless of how he proposed, the answer would have been yes. A beautiful place, a perfect moment, the start of the best chapters in my life…..

About Us

Our Story - Her version

How Kara remembers it:

Well, after reading Shawns memory of "How it all went down" I thought you might all like to hear how it really went down, or at least my version. The stories are similar, but the perspectives are much different... I'll follow his story in RED.

How Shawn remembers it:

At the time when I first met Kara, I was I a point in my life where my world revolved around work. Family, children, and love were all far from the top of my list of things to do. I was living in Houston where I am from and had spent the last year developing software for a church of all places. The software had done well and we had reached the point where I was being sent around the states demonstrating it, assisting other churches with implementing it, and talking with other churches about what else they could use it for.

I think Shawn and I were in the same situation. I was single, living alone with my dog Vinny, working double full time at my job, and content and not expecting to meet the man I would spend the rest of my life with. Until.................

One of the destinations happened to be Gilbert Arizona where I was meeting with 3 churches discussing a way to take the ideas of this commercial product and make a free version for smaller churches to use. While in Gilbert I realized that I was missing some supplies that could help, USB thumb drives. I decided to head to the office store and buy some, as luck would have it Kara was in need of supplies that day as well.

Upon getting to the office store I saw one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen walking around and asking for assistance from a clerk. I admit she fascinated me with her good looks, the intelligent way that she discussed her needs, and the confidence she had talking even though she really did not understand the subject matter for which she was discussing. I found myself listening in to the questions she asked, and overheard a clerk giving her bad advice, either not understanding her need or trying to over sell. When their conversation ended, I approached her and gave her my opinion as to what she needed. To my surprise this beautiful woman was also friendly and had extremely kind eyes and a warm smile. I felt my heart flutter, and something inside me told me that I had to see her more and get to know her, that this was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I am typically a shy guy, but with her I felt like this was my one and only chance.

It was Office Max to be exact. I usually go to Staples, and I usually order online, or if absolutely necessary I visit a store close to home. When Shawn saw me "walking around asking for assistance from a clerk", he really means he saw one of the annoying clerks bugging me asking me if I needed help. I told him what i was looking for, and that I was all set. The clerk managed to talk about the product, and try to sell me some other junk as Shawn was stalking the area. I can see how Shawn perceived me to be a girl lost in a sea of electronics. What a perfect time for him to move in..........

I wandered around the store well after I had picked up what I needed, hoping she would talk to me again. When she started heading to the checkout I knew this was my chance so I got into line with her and scrambled for something to engage her with. I got brave and asked her for her number and if she’d like to go grab a bite or drinks sometime. To my delight she said yes. That rest of the day I could not shake her from my mind, and every day since she is all I can think about. I love this woman.

My Memory is that Shawn was in line first, and he didn't ask for my number at all. I was mad, hot, tired, and wanted to get home. As I was waiting in line, the only one open of course, when I hear someone ask me "are you from around here"... I thought to myself "oh jeez, here we go", and I looked up at him. At that moment I felt something, and my initial irritation of him talking to me turned into a fear that he was going to ask me out and what do I say? Do I have something in my teeth? My breath is probably on fire. I've been holding in a fart for 20 minutes. What if I like him and find out he is unavailable? The typical thoughts a girl has. Anyway.... Just as I looked up, he said he was looking for a good place to eat, and if I could recommend anything. I thought "oh, he wants to take his girlfriend out" Anyway, that was not the case and to make a long story short, we had dinner a few nights later, fell madly in love, and I knew that forever would be together.......
